Guatemalan Maps Available in the Cloud

The Geographic Institute of Guatemala recently launched its first set of cloud-based geoservices. Its news view service provides open access to more than 20 thematic layers on topics such as geodesy, vegetation cover, land use, geology, hydrology and road network, among others. The services use Geoserver and Geoexplorer, and were developed with support from the GeoSUR Program and PAIGH, with funding from the Eye on Earth Alliance. Miguel Blanco, a GeoSUR adviser, was in Guatemala in early November and worked with specialists from the Geographic Institute in order to prepare the geospatial data and geoservices that were placed in the... Rx Networks Announces Release of XYBRID Cloud

Rx Networks, the Canada-based mobile location technology company, has announced the upcoming release of XYBRID Cloud 1.0, scheduled for release on 1 May 2013. XYBRID Cloud is a hosted GNSS that applies the power of cloud processing to determine a location even when only a few snapshots of weak GNSS signals are available. Particularly well suited for the machine-to-machine (M2M) market, XYBRID Cloud can enable indoor devices like routers, small cells, and other infrastructure to become location-aware. Once devices know their location, this information can be used as a reference to other devices, such as smartphones for indoor positioning. By... (read more)

Real-time Edge Detection in Point-cloud Demonstration

Orbit GeoSpatial Technologies will showcase real-time edge detection tools for point clouds at the RIEGL User Conference, Hong Kong, from 5-8 May 2015. Edge-detection tools will be included in the upcoming version 11.1 release of the Orbit Mobile Mapping portfolio of feature extraction products. According to Peter Bonne, CEO at Orbit GT, the RIEGL scanners produce very nice point clouds in which edge-detection is very gratifying. This simplifies every feature extraction job as edges are most likely what needs to be retained, and the edge detection precisely snaps to the edges. (read more)
