Geosciences Innovation Award for M.O.S.S.

M.O.S.S. has been awarded top honours for innovation in geosciences at the seventh GIS-Forum of the GDI Sachsen, the Spatial Data Infrastructure Association of the State of Saxony, Germany. The award ceremony was held on 24th February 2010 in the city hall of Dresden. Geosan LLC has contracted with Vexcel Imaging, to purchase an UltraCamXp Wide Angle digital aerial photogrammetric camera system. Publication on Using Space Images

By the request of ScanEx R&D Center, the Irkutsk East Siberian R&D Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources has developed and published a reference manual on using space images for the governmental and local authorities. Data received from space is being used wider from year to year in day-to-day practice of the governmental and local authorities. Tom Veldkamp New Dean ITC

The Supervisory Board of the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) has appointed Prof. Tom A. Veldkamp (46) to the post of rector/dean. He will succeed Prof. Martien Molenaar, who steps down on 1st January 2010.   Tom Veldkamp has a PhD in agricultural and environmental sciences from the Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR). INCRA Selects Clark Labs IDRISI Andes

INCRA, Brazil's National Institute for Colonization and Agrarian Reform, has purchased a suite of IDRISI Andes GIS and Image Processing software licenses to monitor natural resources, manage federal lands and determine areas which require preservation. The sale was arranged through Clark Labs' distributor in Brazil, SulSoft. Land reform is a critical issue in Brazil and INCRA is charged with implementing agrarian reform to ensure equitable distribution of land and sustainable agricultural development. NASA and NOAA's GOES-P Satellite Successfully Launched

The latest Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite, or GOES-P, lifted off Thursday aboard a Delta IV rocket at 6:57 p.m. EST from Space Launch Complex 37 at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, USA. The new National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) satellite joins four other similar spacecraft to improve weather forecasting and monitoring of environmental events. Approximately four hours and 21 minutes after liftoff, the spacecraft separated from the launch vehicle. Air Pollution Modelling with 3D Visualisation

UK-based environmental engineering company Cambridge Environmental Research Consultants (CERC) has been using the TatukGIS Developer Kernel (DK) ActiveX edition since 2007 to develop the GIS mapping module for its ADMS air pollution modelling software. The mapping module developed from the TatukGIS DK, called ADMS Mapper, is used to visualise and edit input data for the ADMS modelling software. The Mapper can render pollutant concentrations output from the ADMS model. Before ADMS Mapper became available, users of ADMS had to buy third-party GIS software such as ESRI ArcGIS or MapInfo to visualise their modelling scenarios. ADMS is used by hundreds of people... GIS Kiosk

Among the many displays and interactive activities at the new Sam J. Racadio Library and Environmental Learning Center in Highland (CA, USA), is a geographic information system kiosk. The kiosk, installed by ESRI, uses ArcReader and ArcGIS Online software to promote the use of maps for environmental purposes by those doing research or who are simply curious about a particular place.     The data necessary to create these maps comes from a variety of sources including the County of San Bernardino, ESRI,, Readers Digest, and the Wildlife Conservation Society.     (read more)
