iXSea’s Smallest Inertial Navigation System

iXSea has unveiled QUADRANS at this year’s ASPRS Annual Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. According to iXSea, QUADRANS is the most complete all-in-one, high-grade inertial navigation system for airborne and land survey applications.     QUADRANS offers sensors, a GPS, a data logger, and all the necessary interface systems and computing electronics together in one housing. Stephane Loeul, sales director, iXSea, says that ‘’QUADRANS capitalises on iXSea’s 25 years of experience in designing ITAR-free, fibre-optic gyroscope-based IMUs for applications as demanding as satellite stabilisation and survey. We have spent a great deal of time and effort downsizing our field-proven fibre-optic gyroscope... (read more)

DMT to Present GYROMAT 5000 at Intergeo

Modern surveying often relies on data from satellite-based GNSS systems, as do modern navigation systems, too. But what if there is no satellite reception? This could be the case underground, in tunnels or in large-scale constructions. And what if, as in tunnel-building, the highest level of precision is crucial when measuring direction? DMT, the German engineering and consulting company, has a solution: the GYROMAT 5000. This is the latest product to be developed by DMT in its range of high-accuracy surveying instruments and will be on show at the upcoming Intergeo, the international geodesy trade fair. The GYROMAT 5000 allows... (read more)

Indoor Navigation Using Smartphones

Assessing the Quality of Integrated Sensors
Nowadays, navigation systems have become an integral part of everyday life. But since GNSS-based systems do not work in locations where no GNSS signals can be received, a navigation solution can offer an interesting solution in such places – such as at congresses, in shopping malls, at train stations or in large office buildings. The HafenCity University in Hamburg, Germany, started exploring the possibilities of indoor navigation solutions in 2009, and especially in conjunction with smartphones since 2011. In order to devise a successful indoor navigation solution, it is important to understand the quality of smartphones’ integrated sensors. This article... (read more)

Gyro Station GYRO X

Sokkia's Gyro Station technology combines a gyroscope with a total-station, creating a multi-use surveying and engineering instrument designed to provide superior solutions beyond the reach of other technologies including tunneling, road, railroad, power line, pipeline and similar long and narrow, or underground construction projects.   Denny Welch, senior vice president of the Survey Business Unit, said that the capabilities of the Sokkia's Gyro Station are enhanced by combining Sokkia's SRX robotic total-station with the gyroscope." The Gyro Station now has auto-pointing capabilities and a newly equipped image sensor. GYRO X automatically finds true north and determines the azimuth with 15"... (read more)

INS for Airborne Mapping

iXBlue, France, has presented ATLANS as a cost-effective georeferencing and orientation system, designed for land and airborne mapping applications. The user obtains a compact, lightweight gyrocompass and motion sensor that consumes little power and yet provides all of the required data for demanding navigation, stabilisation and control applications as in UAS, digital imaging and hyperspectral imaging applications. ATLANS can be easily integrated with standard GNSS and DMI systems and is combined with most commonly used flight management, satellite tracking and mobile imaging systems. All of the interface and computing electronics are contained within a single housing that also features an... (read more)

IXSEA for Mobile Radar Application

EADS Defence & Security (DS), Germany, has choosen IXSEA for a navigation and positioning application and has purchased eight ADVANS LYRA units; further orders are expected to follow. The units will replace obsolete mechanical orientation technology in vehicles designed to carry mobile radar systems. Very soon after the vehicle has come to a stop, the operator will be provided with accurate heading and attitude information with which to orient the radar system.Incorporating IXSEA's industry-leading fibre-optic gyroscope technology, ADVANS LYRA units are maintenance-free, highly reliable, robust and very easy to install and use, all prime requirements in more-critical situations. Xsens Decade of Partnership Award

Motion sensor supplier Xsens has celebrated its tenth year of business with presentation of a Decade of Partnership Award to Professor Peter Veltink. The company office near the Technical University of Twente (Netherlands) was the scene for the Mayor of Enschede to speak a few words of congratulation. The occasion was also marked by the official opening of the Los Angeles branche in the United States. The company has a special relationship with this scientist as the majority of the engineers employed by Xsens have accomplished their education with him. As Xsens has a strong cooperation with the university, he... (read more)

Supergeo and FOIF Join Forces to Deliver GIS Solution

Supergeo Technologies, a GIS software and solution provider, has announced a cooperation agreement with Suzhou FOIF Co. (FOIF) to provide worldwide surveyors with a high-accuracy GIS turnkey solution. Mobile GIS is the base to establish GIS infrastructure with field data, and data accuracy determines the quality and subsequent processing time and cost. However, traditional survey instruments or post-processing usually cost a lot. With more than 50 years of experience in geo-related surveying equipment manufacturing, FOIF supplies gyroscope stations, total stations, theodolites, laser products, GNSS, etc. By collaborating with FOIF, Supergeo is able to provide users around the world with a...
