Russia has the intention to develop and implement a 3D cadastre. A Russian-Dutch project on 3D cadastre modelling assessed the added value of a 3D cadastre. At present, the system of state cadastre and real estate registration in the Russian Federation is based on the 2D representation of objects including land parcels, buildings and structures. Modelling Prague Castle with a UAS

Capturing a Highly Secured Site from the Air
In a recent project to obtain detailed and accurate orthoimages and 3D models to support technical staff in maintaining Prague Castle in the Czech Republic, the site was captured by UAS photogrammetry. Videos and georeferenced panoramic images were also taken as a service to documentalists and to provide the basis for virtual tours for tourists. Monitoring Ice Cliff Evolution of the Miage Glacier, Italy, with ILRIS-3D
The Miage Glacier at Mont Blanc Massif, with an area totalling 11km2, is the third largest glacier in Italy. Time-space modelling of the lakebed and glacier walls carried out with terrestrial Lidar revealed that the ice cliff had retreated more than 45m between July 2003 and September 2004. The Miage Lake area, which has been a tourist attraction and object of study for decades, has been affected by at least seventeen drainage events over the past hundred years, the most recent just last year. 3D Modelling of Shukhov Tower

Using Laser Scanning to Model a Russian Radio Tower
The 90-year-old Shukhov Tower in Moscow, Russia, is not only in a state of severe disrepair but the 150m-high steel construction is also under-documented. To support restoration initiatives or, in case of unexpected collapse, to enable the tower to be observed virtually, the authors carried out ground-based laser scanning using seven scan positions to create a detailed 3D model. Built in the period from 1919 to 1922, the radio tower at Shabolovka is an icon of Soviet broadcasting and a world-renowned monument of Russian avant-garde architecture. Modelling the Great Wall of China

Mapping by Airborne and Terrestrial Lidar
The Great Wall of China is one of the largest manmade wonders of the world, comprising many different and irregular structures. We employed airborne Lidar to produce highly accurate digital elevation models (DEMs) to identify areas requiring repair. A terrestrial laser scanner mounted on a tripod was used to improve the terrain model, especially for surfaces covered with dense vegetation. The combined use of airborne and terrestrial laser scanner produced DEMs with accuracies better than 10cm. Free Modelling and Simulation Terrain Databases

The U.S. Army Geospatial Center (AGC) is distributing Modelling and Simulation (M&S) terrain databases along with operational geospatial products on its Common Map Background (CMB) website with the goal of providing a single repository for all geospatial products. There are 161 free synthetic terrain databases that support Live, Virtual, & Constructive (L/V/C) simulations used in training, testing and experimentation hosted on CMB. These M&S terrain databases are available in multiple formats suitable for use in Joint Semi-Automated Forces (JSAF), One Semi-Automated Forces (OneSAF), Virtual Battle Space 2 (VBS2) and other Department of Defense simulations.
