PolyExplore Unveils High-Precision UAV Lidar Mapping System

PolyExplore has launched the Polyscanner LS1, a high-precision Lidar mapping system designed for UAVs and other aerial platforms. Based around advanced solid-state Lidar technology, the Polyscanner LS1 uses an innovative scanning pattern and focused field of view (FOV) to create a dense point cloud with a detection range of over 200 metres. This latest addition to the Polyscanner family of aerial mapping platforms incorporates PolyExplore’s Polynav 2000 precision GNSS-aided INS (inertial navigation system) technology, featuring a dual-frequency, dual-antenna, quad-constellation PPK/RTK capable receiver with centimeter-level accuracy and a tactical grade IMU. Konstantinos Karantzalos received the engineering diploma degree from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Athens, Greece, and a PhD in 2007 from NTUA in collaboration with CERTIS, Ecole Nationale de Ponts et Chaussees, Paris, France. In 2007, he joined the Center for Visual Computing of the Department of Applied Mathematics, Ecole Centrale de Paris, Châtenay-Malabry, France. Processing Sentinel-1 Images of Hurricane Laura's Landfall in Louisiana

Hurricane Laura made landfall on the coast of Louisiana, southwest of Lafayette, USA, on 27 August at roughly 2 a.m. Eastern time. Hurricane-force winds of up to 74 miles per hour (120 km/h) were reported, causing considerable damage to property and sadly also the loss of many lives. While the Sentinel-1 satellites (Sentinel 1A and 1B) are designed to collect standard coverages on fixed dates (repeat pass every 6 days typically using both satellites).
