Mapping Software

This is the second Product Survey on Mapping Software, the first having been published in February 2004. Support for web-based services is becoming increasingly relevant, including within an interactive environment, for example with links to GPS. However, paper-based visualisation with support in the printing process is still of considerable significance. Visualisation and presentation is the final stage of any activity and process involving geo-data and geo-information. As a result, designers and developers of mapping software have to address an abundance of issues stemming from previous stages in the geo-information processing cycle. Lidar Rectification Software

The Optech Lidar Mapping Suite (LMS) version 2.0, for Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper (ALTM) clients, has been released. The suite offers a new workflow designed for the production environment. Incorporating a fully-automated batch-mode capability, Optech LMS enables simultaneous processing of multi-mission data collects, and includes multi-threaded and distributed processing capabilities to further increase processing efficiency. A new lidar rectification module provides additional value by maximising and quantifying project-wide accuracies. PCI Geomatics (Canada) has released Geomatica 10.1. This release features significant new additions along with enhancements in reliability, performance, usability and functionality of existing technology. Point Cloud Software Faster

Leica Geosystems announces major releases of its flagship point cloud software applications: Cyclone 6.0; CloudWorx 4.0; and TruView 2.0. All applications now include intuitive, panoramic viewing of point clouds plus intuitive navigation of point clouds using \"key plans\" and scanner location icons. TerraPos Post-processing Software

The Norwegian company Terratec has introduced software capable of accurate positioning based on post-processing of GPS-observations, without the use of reference stations or DGPS services. Typical accuracy for kinematic applications are 3cm horizontally and 4cm vertically (RMS). This level of accuracy makes the software unique worldwide. TerraPos utilises precise orbits and clock corrections for the satellites, together with advanced error modelling to produce positions with impressing accuracy. Software Maps Rwandan Health

A system of electronic mapping is being used to improve healthcare across Rwanda. The digital maps are designed to compile information from numerous databases and use it to both track and predict outbreaks of disease. This can then be used to help developing countries best utilise their limited resources. By putting this information together on a map, correlations can be found between things that might not be obvious from looking at graphs or tables.
