Leica Consolidates in Singapore

Leica Geosystems Surveying & Engineering Division (Switzerland) has established a new Singapore subsidiary, Leica Geosystems Technologies Pte Ltd. Following a previously announced restructuring plan, this new company combines the current business in Leica Instruments (S) Pte Ltd (Singapore) with those from its US operations in Michigan. In addition to being the competence centre for development and engineering of digital and optical levelling technologies, Leica Geosystems Technologies in Singapore will be the global headquarter for levelling products, including manufacturing and assembly operations. Thailand Orders Total Stations

The Thai Department of Lands (DOL) has signed a contract for the purchase of 151 units of Sokkia RED-tech EDM-equipped Reflectorless Total Stations through S.D.M. Company Limited, Sokkia's exclusive distributor for Thailand. The DOL embarked upon a nation-wide cadastral survey project aiming for land rights to be issued throughout the country within three years of the project start date of October 2003. Purchasing a large number of Sokkia RED-tech Reflectorless Total Stations was an important step towards accomplishing this challenging task by the target date of September 2006. Launch Applanix POS LV 200

Applanix (Canada) has launched its POS LV 200 system (Position and Orientation System for Land Vehicles). The system is intended for upgrading survey vehicles that already incorporate GPS and DMI sensors (Distance Measurement Indicator). It is designed for easy integration with existing Trimble GPS equipment and engineered for a variety of land vehicle applications such as road profiling, pavement analysis, mobile mapping and infrastructure asset management. Trimble Acquires Pacific Crest

Trimble (CA, USA), in a cash transaction, is to acquire the privately held Pacific Crest Corporation (CA, USA). Financial terms have not been disclosed. Pacific Crest Corporation has two core business areas: its products provide in-class solutions for precision RTK GPS applications that include surveying and machine control and Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) wireless applications for weather stations, aquaculture and offshore monitoring. Trimble S6 Total Station

Trimble (CA, USA) has introduced its S6 Total Station, an advanced surveying instrument based on a new design platform. The S6 will be available in three configurations: Servo, Autolock and Robotic. All components of the system can be upgraded. The cable-free system includes MagDrive servos and angle sensors, SurePoint accuracy assurance, and MultiTrack prism tracking. China's Digital Mapping Plan

China’s State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping (SBSM) has embarked on Digital China, an ambitious project listed in China's 10th five-year plan that aims to map the entire country digitally. The project aims at decision support for the country's leaders in natural disaster prevention and city planning. Fugro Surveys 100,000km with FLI-MAP

In the last quarter of 2004, Fugro (The Netherlands) completed the survey of more than 100,000 kilometres using their helicopter-based laser altimetry system FLI-MAP. The 100,000th kilometre was surveyed for Estereofoto (Portugal). Since 1999, the two companies have jointly executed numerous projects in Portugal, Spain and the Czech Republic with, in total, 6,000 survey kilometres. FLI-MAP was developed by Fugro and integrates LiDAR, with photo and video sensors and GPS to obtain highly accurate topographic information of corridors.
