Biography

Dr Ville Lehtola is an assistant professor in mobile and indoor mapping at the ITC faculty of the University of Twente, and formerly a senior scientist at the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute (FGI) and post-doc fellow of the Academy of Finland. His research interests include laser scanning and sensor fusion, scan-to-BIM methods toward digital twins, and robot perception, cognition and navigation problems in various environments. Holding a doctorate in computational statistical physics from Aalto University, he has a background in algorithms, high-performance computing and superclusters. He was city councillor for Espoo from 2009 to 2016 (including supervision of Helsinki West Metro construction and sustainability planning).
