100,000th Total Station

SOUTH Survey celebrates reaching the milestone of 100,000 units rolling out of the factury. This will be celebrated in SOUTH's Beijing factory (China). This number is significant as according to SOUTH, it is bigger than the total volume of imported total-stations since 1970 and doubles the total volume of all other China-made total-stations ever. China's first total-station, the NTS-202 was released in 1995 for the Chinese market, followed in 2002 by the NTS-322 total-station which was equivalent to the international level. The year 2004 was important as SOUTH reached the first place in the Chinese market, surpassing imported brands and... (read more)

Topcon Total Station Tender

Topcon (Netherlands) wins the world's largest total station tender. With more than 800 instruments to be delivered to the Polish Ministry of Education (MEN) by Polish partner TPI, Topcon has set a new world wide record for the largest tender ever with its technology. The tender breaks down to 430 Total Stations (GPT-3107N) and 430 optical levels (AT-G6); making for a total of 860 instruments. The equipment will be used for educational purposes in all Polish secondary technical schools that require surveying instruments in their educational processes. The agreement is the result of a tender organized by MEN between November 2007... (read more)

'Unconventional' Total Station Series

With its ES series, Topcon Positioning Systems (TPS), USA, has announced the first series of new and unconventional reflectorless total stations, setting a new bar on performance, speed, accuracy and security. In addition to the security and maintenance system known as TSshield, the ES series features LongLink, a long-distance wireless communications system. The ES is available in 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7 arc second accuracy models.     The ES has a non-prism operating distance of 500m (1,640 feet), and 4,000m (13,120 feet) with a prism.   Topcon's LongLink communications technology, featuring Bluetooth Class 1 wireless technology, has a... New Total Station Topcon

Topcon Positioning Systems (CA, USA) has announced its new, more accurate, longer distance, wireless total station, the Topcon GPT-3100W model.   This "multi-pulse" electronic distance meter (EDM) can take readings at 1,150 feet. Additionally, the GPT-3100W has a more narrow relectorless beam (.8 inches x .4 inches at 164 feet), and is designed for easier maintenance. The new model retains the dual-optical design for maximum measuring accuracy at all times. The laser is safe for all conditions, making it ideal for use in high-traffic and other heavily populated areas.   The new model replaces the GPT-3000W; the GPT-3000LW, which has... (read more)

Total Station for Aircraft Levelling

One of the world’s most successful military training aircraft, the PZL-130 TC Orlik manufactured by EADS PZL Warszawa-Okecie S.A., Poland, is now being levelled with the aid of a Nikon Nivo 5M total station. Aircraft levelling, both longitudinally (forward and aft) and laterally (left to right), is performed in the final stages of assembly. Accurate levelling of the aircraft on the ground is required before precise alignment and symmetry checks can be performed to confirm that the geometry of the aircraft is to specification. Prior to using the Nikon Nivo total station, levelling was accomplished with a theodolite and precision... (read more)
