OLMS V1.0 (Optech Lidar Mapping Suite V1.0) is a new software package for Optech ALTM Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper clients. It enables users to maximise lidar accuracies over large project areas in a production environment. Incorporating batch-mode processing capability, OLMS V1.0 automates production processing of multi-mission data collections, and includes multi-threaded and distributed processing capabilities to increase processing efficiency even further. Lidar Rectification Software

Optech has released the Optech LMS Lidar Mapping Suite for its Lynx Mobile Mapper clients. It offers Lynx clients a new workflow designed specifically for high-volume production processing, and incorporates a fully automated batch-mode capability.     Optech LMS enables simultaneous processing of multi-mission data collects, and includes multi-threaded and distributed processing capabilities to further increase processing efficiency.   According to Daina Morgan, Optech's Lynx Mobile Mapper product manager, Optech LMS Standard includes all the capabilities the clients are used to, with the added feature of comprehensive coordinate conversion. Lidar Forum Dates Set

Following on from the previous success of both the European Lidar Mapping Forum and the International Lidar Mapping Forum, the organisers have now set the dates for the next edition of both events. ELMF will be returning to Salzburg, Austria, from 4th to 5th December 2012, and ILMF will be returning to Denver, Colorado in the US from 11th to 13th February 2013. In 2011, when ELMF moved to Salzburg from The Hague in The Netherlands, the venue received so much positive feedback from visitors and exhibitors alike that the organisers are planning to return there for a second year.... Improving Existing Propagation Models
Simulation of sound propagation is key for today’s urbanised society, in which sound is omnipresent and often negatively affects people’s lives. Existing methods of sound-propagation modelling fail to capture the complexity of terrain. Airborne Lidar in conjunction with aerial photos is able to fill this gap. The authors propose a programme of research to find out how high-resolution terrain data might improve the efficiency of sound models. Sound propagation is affected by obstructing objects such as buildings and trees, and influenced by the relative location of sound source and receiver, type of intermediate ground and meteorological conditions. Basic tools for processing Lidar point clouds, which can be extended depending on needs, provide a flexible platform for service providers and users alike. Here, the authors demonstrate how a publicly available open-source application with basic tools for visualising, editing and analysing Lidar point clouds has been extended into a compliant platform that serves diverse applications including mapping of power-line corridors, land uses and riverbeds. Velodyne Live Lidar Demos

Velodyne Lidar (USA) is displaying its latest in sensor technology, the HDL-32E, on Stand 39 at the 2011 SPAR international conference being held this week at the Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center in Houston (TX, USA). First ALS LIDAR Project

Airborne Laser Solutions (South Africa) has undertaken the first aerial lidar survey project in its new Rockwell Aero Commander 1000 aircraft. This survey is required for the route selection and design of a 220km-power line linking Tete in Mozambique and Blantyre in Malawi. The company’s prime equipment currently consists of an Optech 3033 ALTM LiDAR system combined with a Hasselblad camera and Phase One digital back. With this equipment in the Aero Commander ALS is able to generate terrain models at 50cm to 10cm vertical accuracy, and colour digital orthophotos at pixel ground resolution ranging from 50cm to 10cm. Swedish Lidar Project

New Nationwide Elevation Model
Airborne Lidar is being used to establish a new national elevation model of the entire territory of Sweden (450,000km2), one point per two m2. The project, spanning 2009 to 2013, is the responsibility of two internationally operating Scandinavian geospatial product service providers: Blom, headquartered in Oslo, Norway, and Denmark-based COWI.
