Inspiring GISTAM 2015 Conference Connects Researchers and Practitioners

GISTAM 2015, the 1st International Conference on Geographical Information Systems Theory, Applications and Management took place in Barcelona, Spain, from 28 to 30 April. GISTAM 2015 was held in conjunction with ICEIS 2015 and ENASE 2015, covering a broad range of related fields, including any aspect of geographical information.

In addition to the presentation sessions, GISTAM 2015 included four outstanding keynote lectures, which are relevant to today’s lines of research and technical innovation. These talks were presented by internationally distinguished researchers, namely:

  • Robert Laurini, INSA, University of Lyon, France

Title: Geographic Knowledge Engineering for Territorial Intelligence

Title: Hyperspectral Remote Sensing Data Analysis

  • Jordi Corbera, Geological and Cartographic Institute of Catalonia, Spain

Title: Earth Observation - A World to Be Sensed

Title: Why the Map of the Future Will Not Look like a Map

The papers were organised in 7 sessions ranging the hot topics of nowadays such as geospatial data sensing, observation, representation, processing, visualisation, sharing and managing, in all aspects concerning both information communication and technologies (ICT) as well as management information systems and knowledge-based systems.

All papers presented at the conference venue will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library and a short list of papers will be invited to submit to publication in a special issue of Springer in a CCIS Series book (Communications in Computer and Information Science). As well it is planned to publish a short list of revised and extended versions in the Journal of Geographical Systems in a special issue.

The organising committee included the GISTAM conference chair Cédric Grueau (Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal/IPS, Portugal) and the GISTAM programme chair Jorge Gustavo Rocha (University of Minho, Portugal).

Partners

GISTAM 2015 was sponsored by INSTICC (The Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication), technical Co-sponsored by IEEE GRSS (IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society) and was held in cooperation with ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), ACM SIGSPATIAL (Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Spatial Information); GSDI (Global Spatial Data Infrastructure Association), CIG (The Canadian Institute of Geomatics), IGC (Geological Institute of Catalonia) and ISPRS (International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing).

Best paper

Regarding the best paper award, GISTAM has recognised the paper, 3D Reconstruction and Visualisation of Alternatives for Restoration of Historic Buildings – a New Approach from Lemonia Ragia, Froso Sarri and Katerina Mania. As the best student paper award, GISTAM acknowledged the paper DIFPL – Distirbuted Drone Flight Path Builder System by Manu Shukla, Ziqian Chen and Chang-Tien Lu.
