Louisiana Highway Survey Contract

Fugro Roadware has been awarded a new contract with the State of Louisiana DOTD, with a potential value of USD20 million over six years. The initial task order is for a network level pavement condition evaluation and Videolog across 35,800 miles of Louisiana roads, to be completed by 30th June 2012. This task has a value of USD6.2 million.

Fugro Roadware is also fast-tracking just over 700 miles of routes as a special service. This will monitor the road condition of the routes that have been subjected to accelerated truck traffic in order to facilitate the clean up of the Gulf oil spill. This will allow the Louisiana DOTD to analyse and evaluate infrastructure damage related to the oil spill clean up as quickly as possible.

As part of the overall contract, Fugro Roadware will be providing a full range of highway asset management surveys which will include a High Definition street-level view of their highway system and will enable an accurate highway asset inventory to be recorded. Using ARAN technology, Fugro Roadware will automatically record the current condition of the pavement surface and use Ground Penetrating Radar to measure the thickness of the roads. Further measurements will then be taken to accurately measure the remaining life of the pavement in its current state. Finally, skid testing will be carried out at key locations on the road network, which will give the DOTD a good indication of the safety of the highway in terms of road users' ability to turn and stop safely.

David Lowe, president of Fugro Roadware commented, "We are proud to be working with Louisiana DOTD and to be a part of the benefits our services will directly bring to the State of Louisiana by providing them accurate and reliable information so they can strategically focus investment in road maintenance and safety at the most efficient time with the most effective treatments, delivering significant economic value to Louisiana's State tax payers and ensuring safe and affordable highways for many years to come."
