Luxembourg City Migrates to Elyx

The City of Esch-sur-Alzette (Luxembourg), which has been using STAR-APIC software since 1994, has started migration to the Elyx GIS product suite. After a study phase during which the new STAR-APIC software suite was presented in demonstrations, the mapping/graphics service of the City of Esch-sur-Alzette has decided to migrate to Elyx.

The team involved in this migration is composed of five people who are responsible for base maps, the development plan, specific development plans, guide plans, road maps and orthophotos.

The City of Esch-sur-Alzette started its adventure with STAR-APIC in 1994 when the mapping/graphics service of the city acquired the CARTO and TOPOWinSTAR modules developed by the Liège company. This service is part of the Division of Surveyors, which explains the need for very accurate base maps. The territory of the city is 14km² with half of it located in the urban area. Its road network and some 6,000 buildings are in the database of high geometric accuracy. Since 2008, graphic data has been linked to an alphanumeric database – developed in house – that provides all the information on buildings, building permits and communal property management documents. Requests for new theme representations keep on increasing.

Nadine Tornambé-Duchamp, industrial engineer and head of the GIS Department stated that the City of Esch-sur-Alzette is confident that the Elyx range will meet the future needs of the communal services. In addition to Elyx Office, Elyx Web and Elyx Manager licenses, the City will also purchase the Elyx Triple Play application, Fibre Optic module, for the ‘Optic Fibre’ team, a new department created within the industrial services of the City.
