New FARO scanning technology accelerates large-scale projects

FARO has recently launched its Hybrid Reality Capture solution, powered by Flash Technology. This innovative solution offers faster scanning for large-volume projects in architecture, engineering, construction and public safety applications. Accessed through FARO's advanced workflows, Hybrid Reality Capture is the latest scan mode available for Focus Premium laser scanner users. It combines the accuracy of a static 3D laser scanner with the speed of a panoramic camera. By providing fast scans with colourized 360° images, this technology enables users to complete up to two weeks of on-site work in just one week. According to FARO, this increases scanning speed by 100%, allowing customers to complete their projects faster without incurring additional costs.

"Hybrid Reality Capture is a best-of-both-worlds innovation that will improve on-site productivity and deliver state-of-the-art colourized visual clarity at a highly affordable price," said FARO president and CEO Michael Burger. "Industries that have made tradeoffs between capturing 3D data accurately or quickly have been waiting for this hybrid solution and we are excited to bring it to our markets."

Flash Technology will enable faster and more frequent data capture, taking only 30 seconds per scan. The company reports that its proprietary smart upscaling algorithms enable the output to include all collected points, resulting in images that look crisper compared to scans of the same resolution with traditional methods. This add-on subscription will be available in the Stream mobile app.
