New R&D Facility for 3D Laser Mapping

UK-based laser scanning specialist 3D Laser Mapping has opened a new research and development centre strategically located close to its global headquarters in Nottingham, UK. Focusing on new product development and research into laser scanning solutions across a range of markets, the centre will be staffed by a combination of existing and newly recruited personnel.

Dr Graham Hunter is heading the new facility, which will play a key role in the company’s strategy for development of existing products, such as the market leading mobile mapping system StreetMapper and the mine monitoring system SiteMonitor, as well as new laser scanning solutions such as the handheld mobile mapping system Zeb1.

Latest scanning and positioning equipment

As well as being staffed by experienced laser scanning engineers, the new centre will also be equipped with the latest equipment to facilitate product design, development and testing. Tools will include the latest in terrestrial laser scanning hardware, positioning technologies and software development systems. Testing facilities will include state-of-the-art simulation technologies and software and the centre will house a dedicated training suite.
