Racurs Conference on Remote Sensing

Racurs organised its 11th conference in Tossa de Mar, Spain. The conference was opened by the mayor of Tossa de Mar, Mrs. Gisela Saladich, Doctor of technical sciences Victor P. Savinykh and chairman of the Board of the "Earth from space" Association Victor V. Lavrov. The Racurs conference attracted a large delegation from Russia. Topics ranging from satellite imagery technology up to Lidar techniques and solutions were covered during the conference.

Dr. Adrov gave a short, but interesting overview of the direction of where developments are taking Racurs. Spatial data management and distribution became a significant issue with their customers. Much spatial data is available within organisations, though in many cases it is not easily available for those requiring the information. Geoportal solutions allow to distribute and access the information.

During the conference a session was dedicated to the UAV technologies in the industry for the photogrammetric market. In different aspects this technology can become interesting for the geospatial world. The operational costs for acquiring data and processing are lower than for example aerial photogrammetry and a wider public can now have access to spatial information. The different solutions can create in a rapid rate of acquisition of aerial imagery in small areas. There are some hurdles to overcome, such as the stability of the platform and correct calibration are important factors for generating accurate aerial imagery.

On the last day Racurs provided workshop sessions on the new Photomed developments. The workshop sessions were divided in different sections: UAV data processing, 3D-modelling module, new tools of satellite images block adjustment and new features of PHOTOMOD GeoMosaic software were some of the topics covered.

With a sports competition, flamenco dancers and a gala dinner at castle El Convent the delegates had plenty of time to network, exchange thoughts and ideas.
