Submissions to European Space Imaging High-Res Challenge Now Open

Submissions to the European Space Imaging High-Res Challenge are open for people to put in application ideas which are easily implementable, sustainable, cut costs and create efficiencies using Very High-Resolution (VHR) satellite data. The winner will receive up to EUR20,000 of imagery data to support the realisation of their idea.

European Space Imaging's High-Res Challenge gives application designers access to the worlds’ highest resolution satellite data to support the development of new application ideas for 50cm optical satellite imagery from DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-2 satellite.It is part of the Copernicus Master’s, the European Earth Monitoring competition which awards prizes for innovative solutions for business and society based on Earth Observation data.

Developing new applications for Very High-Resolution (VHR) satellite data is a continuing aim of satellite imagery providers, not only because the data can be processed to extract useful information but also because new technologies allow for new applications and uses of these data sets.

Last year’s Challenge winner, Hans van ‘t Woud, Cerberus-Blackshore, advises anyone thinking of entering this year’s competition to focus on one business case so that they can tell a clear story. Also, since the idea has to be commercially viable, participants need to know how they want to generate revenue and present a good financial plan, Van ‘t Woud adds.
