Topcon makes strides towards a sustainable future

Topcon Positioning Systems has recently unveiled several initiatives in line with its ongoing commitment to sustainability. A new global team dedicated to sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) has been established, with Michael Gomes appointed as the vice president of global sustainability and CSR. Leveraging his extensive experience in advancing sustainable agricultural practices, Gomes will lead this team, connecting it to Topcon Corporation in Japan to support various divisions effectively.

"Sustainability has been ingrained in Topcon's DNA, and we are dedicated to supporting global initiatives. Our focus is on advancing industries and communities in alignment with the sustainable development goals set by the United Nations in 2015," emphasized Gomes.

Further highlighting its commitment, Topcon inaugurated a 25-hectare Research & Validation Center at its global headquarters in Livermore, California. Developed in collaboration with Alameda County and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo's BioResource and Agricultural Engineering Department, the centre aims to meet the growing demands for researching and validating new technologies. The facility joins similar validation centres in Concordia, Italy, and Adelaide, Australia, which collectively contribute to ongoing global research efforts in precision technologies.

In a bid to reduce environmental impact, Topcon's Livermore campus is undergoing a transition to solar power. The project, initiated in October 2022, aims to power the entire campus, including buildings, manufacturing facilities and electric car charging stations, with solar energy upon completion. "This is a great opportunity to reduce our Scope 2 emissions and energy costs," remarked Gomes.
