Topcon 3.4 G3 Firmware

Topcon's Version 3.4 G3 receiver firmware upgrades the performance and usability of all Topcon GNSS receiver platforms including the industry-leading GR-3 and new GRS-1 systems. The 3.4 G3 firmware is the first to be able to automatically detect the make of the network receiver creating corrections for the rover and applying the proper bias to the GLONASS system measurements contained in the GNSS network solution.     Different manufacturers have different offsets (or biases) for the GLONASS constellation of satellites. As each hardware manufacturer outputs different values for GLONASS measurements, it has been a challenge for a customer to mix... (read more)

Real-time PPP Based on Galileo Signals

Since the launch of the last two Galileo satellites in autumn 2012, Fugro has been looking forward to demonstrating real-time Precise Point Positioning (PPP) based solely on Galileo signals. These two satellites have brought the constellation to a total of four satellites, the minimum required to permit calculation of a Galileo-only position. Fugro achieved this task on 18 March 2013, which was within one week of all four Galileo satellites being activated. Fugro is now generating Galileo orbit & clock corrections which can be used in conjunction with the Fugro G2 decimetre-level corrections associated with its GPS/GLONASS PPP service. The... GSS6300 Multi-GNSS Test System

The Spirent GSS6300 Multi-GNSS Signal Generator is an addition to the company\'s Multi-GNSS product portfolio, designed for high-volume production test applications for devices that use commercial GPS/SBAS, GLONASS and/or Galileo receivers. The system provides a comprehensive remote control interface, facilitating easy integration into Automated Test Equipment (ATE) environments.     The GSS6300 is an evolution of the familiar Spirent GSS6100 single-channel GPS/SBAS production test system that is widely specified for manufacturing test applications. It shares the features, interfaces and specifications of the existing GSS6100 product to which is added Glonass and Galileo capability as well as GPS/SBAS.   Designed with... (read more)

American Bill Deals a Blow to Russian GPS Alternative

The US President, Barack Obama, has signed a bill prohibiting Russia from constructing any stations in the country that could improve the precision of GLONASS, the Russian alternative to GPS. This was announced by the leading newspaper, The New York Times. Russia has been working on improvements to GLONASS for some time, so that it can compete effectively with the American GPS. In order to achieve this, the country would like to build some base stations with large satellite receiver dishes in the US, thus improving the quality of the service and offering a worthy alternative. Just as GPS, GLONASS... (read more)

Updated Suite of Mapping and GIS Software

Trimble has updated its entire portfolio of Mapping & GIS field and office software products. These enhancements focus on improved Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) accuracy for data collection under a variety of conditions. A new postprocessing engine enhanced Trimble’s GNSS postprocessing tools, improving accuracy and consistency of data collected from all Trimble Mapping & GIS equipment, even in multipath and canopy environments. A key addition to the set of tools is Trimble DeltaPhaseTM technology, a new technique for improving the accuracy of GNSS code measurements. With Trimble DeltaPhase technology, results from receivers such as the GeoXT handheld and GPS... (read more)

Hemisphere GPS R320 - Eclipse II Dual Frequency GNSS Receiver

Hemisphere GPS has announced the release of R320 - the first GNSS receiver built on Hemisphere GPS' new Eclipse II OEM board. Using the latest GNSS patented technology, R320 offers quick startup and reacquisition times, tracks GPS L1/L2, GLONASS L1/L2, SBAS augmentation signals, and OmniSTAR® HP/XP/VBS. The R320 can log raw data to a removable USB flash drive for post processing. The receiver incorporates Hemisphere GPS' patented COAST technology that maintains DGPS accuracy during temporary loss of differential signal. Offering such upgradable features as RTK base station functionality or RTK rover performance as well as GLONASS tracking, R320 represents a... (read more)

A Hundred-plus Signals

By 2020, four GNSS constellations will be fully operational: in addition to the US GPS, complete and fully operational since July 1995, these are the Russian Glonass, European Galileo and Chinese Beidou (Compass). Glonass was completed in 1997, but lacking economic impetus jeopardised continuation and by April 2002 only eight satellites were active. Twenty-four satellites, required for world coverage, would be orbiting today had the launch of three completing Glonass-M satellites succeeded on 5th December 2010. However, the launch rocket splashed down in the Pacific and rehabilitation is due in July 2011. By the end of 2011 Glonass will... (read more)

Four times GNSS

A Worldwide Race
The Munich Satellite Navigation Summit opened during the first week in March 2009 with a plenary session entitled ‘The Worldwide Race in GNSS’ and closed with a panel discussion on the subject of ‘competition among the Big Four’. Although several speakers did their best to convince attendees that there was no race or competition, it is obvious that four systems serving the same market will be involved in a race for the best technical solutions and engage in fierce competition. If it is indeed a race/competition, let us have a look at the score so far. GPS Since 1978 this... (read more)

Magellan Announces MB 500

Magellan has announced a new OEM board, the MB 500. Utilising Magellan's BLADE Technology, the MB 500 board has the ability to provide reliable solutions from three constellations: GPS, GLONASS and SBAS. Working with any base or reference station from any manufacturer, the MB 500 utilises all available GLONASS corrections. The board itself makes all the checks and corrections needed to mitigate these signal instabilities. The MB 500 features low power consumption in a compact board design as well as a large variety of output messages with many different data formats, creating an extensive OEM solution. The MB 500 multi-constellation... (read more)
