Leica PowerDigger 2D

Leica Geosystems announces its next-generation 2D guidance system for excavators. Leica PowerDigger 2D expands Leica Geosystems' PowerSnap concept, providing flexibility and interchangeability of machine control panels and sensors between machinery such as excavators, dozers and graders.

Leica PowerDigger 2D is the new performance system within the PowerDigger portfolio, the result of twelve years market-leading experience with excavating guidance systems. The system allows multiple elevation and slopes to be constructed, at any orientation without resetting the machine or laser height reference. The new PowerDriller function is suited for maintaining verticality for excavator drilling attachments. Contractors benefit from a high machine productivity regardless of the application as the system eliminates over-excavation and grade checking, and minimises downtime. It reduces costly rework and saves considerably on input costs.

Thanks to PowerSnap, a cable-free system that allows users to swap panels between traditional grade & slope and 3D machine control, Leica Geosystems machine guidance systems are not restricted to just one machine. Data communication via infrared and induction for power supply means maximum reliability and system uptime. Leica Geosystems provides machine control solutions for excavators, dozers, and graders which can now use the same 2D control box hardware with the corresponding software.

Leica PowerDigger 2D provides unique flexibility and is fully upgradeable. Customers can start with single-grade operation and upgrade the system as needed to a full dual grade system by adding a rotation and a tilt-bucket sensor.

Using the system will also improve site safety and eliminate the need to enter the earthworks area for grade checking. When working in potentially dangerous areas, e.g. under bridges and power lines or inside buildings, the operator can preset a maximum working height and will be warned when the excavator arm or bucket reaches the critical height. Leica PowerDigger 2D also features the unique integrated buried service detection warning. An EZiDIG cable detection sensor can be interfaced directly to the PowerDigger CAN connection. The operator will be alerted of buried services while digging by an audio alarm and a multi-level bar on the PowerDigger 2D display.
