Morocco’s Office National de l’Electricité Chooses STAR ELEC

STAR INFORMATIC (Belgium) has announced that its STAR-ELEC application for electricity network management has been selected by the Office National de l’Electricité in Morocco (O.N.E.).

This contract aims to facilitate the co-ordination and monitoring of rural electrification which
has been ongoing for several years under the scope of the ambitious Global Rural Electrification Program (PERG).

Encouraged by the success of PERG since 1996 and keen to meet the strong demand from the population, at the end of 2002 ONE took the decision to accelerate the pace of the program to provide electricity to all of Morocco's rural areas by the year 2007.

At the end of 2004, the rural electrification rate had reached 72 %, supplying electricity to a
population of 7,650,000. By the end of 2007, PERG will allow for the electrification of more
than 35,000 villages and access to electricity for more than 12 million people living in rural areas.

ONE’s main network is made up of approximately 17,107km of high voltage lines, while its
distribution networks consist of almost 36,955km of medium voltage and 92,130km low voltage lines.

The objective of the contract awarded to STAR INFORMATIC is to roll out across the whole
country, the applications successfully implemented within the scope of PERG. It also requires the implementation of several modules dedicated to project planning, convention management, works or-ordination and reporting. The project also includes the implementation of several interfaces to SAP and computing and financial modules.

Finally, the extensive de-centralisation of the electrification process requires the application
to be available to all Regional Technical Services and Distribution Agencies, as well as storing the data centrally to allow analysis at a national level.
