NAVTEQ Receives North American ISO/TS Certification

NAVTEQ (IL, USA), a global provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, has achieved ISO/TS 16949:2002 certification for the release, manufacturing and distribution of data products and distribution products carried out in the distribution services organisation and supported by the vehicle sales and quality departments for NAVTEQ North America.

The goal of NAVTEQ's certification program is to provide a system of processes that institutionalise quality and cost effectiveness, working towards a highly consistent and simplified experience for its customers. NAVTEQ's certification progress reconfirms its dedication to setting and obtaining high standards in the automotive industry.

NAVTEQ employed several key process improvements to become ISO/TS 16949 compliant including: conducting a thorough risk analysis of its production processes, creating potential Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA's) and Control Plans to guarantee strict process management, and measuring the delivered part quality and delivery schedule performance of its products.

NAVTEQ's North American certification process began with an initial readiness review audit of the company's North American distribution function located in Chicago, Illinois and Santa Clara, California. The certification audit was conducted by KEMA, a management system registrar, offering registration to a wide range of ISO and industry specific standards. KEMA auditors interpret the standards, guide customers smoothly through the audit process and help them make real and lasting improvements in their business.
