Specialty Conference on Emerging Mapping and Geospatial Technologies

Online registration is open for the joint MAPPS/ASPRS 2012 Specialty Conference to be held from 29 October to 1 November 2012 in Tampa, Florida. This year’s conference theme, “Ground to Cloud (R)Evolution – Emerging Technologies Supporting Geospatial Application,” will focus on the “(R)Evolution" of this dynamic technology through geospatial applications such as lidar (airborne, ground based, Flash, and Waveform), Visualisation and Modelling, Data fusion/integration, 3D GIS and the integration of GIS and BIM technologies.

The conference will also touch on aspects of digital elevation mapping, with a special emphasis on the use of cloud based computing and the implications of using Software as a Service (SaaS), Platforms as a Service (PaasS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) on the geospatial enterprise.

The MAPPS/ASPRS 2012 Specialty Conference will begin Monday, 29 October with pre-conference education sessions/workshops and a Classified Session at McDill Airforce Base sponsored by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). The conference will open with a general session special guest speaker in the afternoon Tuesday, 30 October and run through mid-morning Thursday, 1 November 2012 at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel and Marina, Tampa, USA.

This conference is the seventh in a series that originated in 1994 as the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) and the Management Association for Private Photogrammetric Surveyors (MAPPS) began jointly hosting education conferences on emerging mapping and geospatial technologies and applications that have become an integral part of our everyday lives. The conference seeks to bring geospatial data users, managers, and imaging and geospatial information professionals together to present the latest developments.

This conference provides a forum offering outstanding networking, education and marketing opportunities. MAPPS and ASPRS would like to invite any organisations involved in airborne, bathymetric Lidar and/or mobile mapping systems, including system and component manufacturers, operators and service companies, to exhibit and/or sponsor this conference. Their presence at this particular conference demonstrates the commitment to advancing this work and the geospatial profession.
