Global Mapper 14.1 Features Lidar Processing Capability

Blue Marble Geographics has announced the release of Global Mapper version 14.1. This update to the company’s desktop GIS translation software offers many new and improved features and functions, including a significant improvement in the ability to process massive amounts of Lidar point cloud data. Global Mapper 14.1 provides an increase in Lidar processing and display speed and the ability to view and process point files in the hundreds of millions range. This is beneficial for previewing the data before creating a gridded surface model and includes several options for filtering the data during import and for rendering the point... (read more)

Optimising Quality Control for Lidar Data Processing

Lidar systems on terrestrial and airborne mapping platforms have been proven to be an effective tool for generating highly accurate, dense point clouds for a variety of applications. However, satisfying the needs of those applications requires rigorous quality control (QC) of the point cloud. To date, most QC activities have focused on checking the positional quality of the point cloud (ensuring that the coordinates of the derived point cloud are free from systematic errors), which is justifiable given the relative maturity of Lidar compared to image-based mapping. Nevertheless, end users are mainly interested in derived products from such data (e.g.... (read more)

ColourCloud Processing Hosted on Google Cloud Platform

NCTech, a developer of reality imaging systems, has announced its ColourCloud software is being hosted on Google Cloud Platform. At the Google Cloud Next ’17 conference, Intel confirmed that the next-generation Intel Xeon processor family (also known as Skylake) is now available on Google Cloud Platform. Google Cloud Platform is the first to offer cloud services based on Skylake. The Intel Xeon processor supports Intel AVX-512 instructions to run compute-intensive workloads more efficiently, such as high-performance computing, video processing and data analytics. This development provides powerful support for the capture and processing of 3D imaging. With ColourCloud now hosted on Google... (read more)

NovAtel Releases Post-processing Software Version 7.80

NovAtel Inc. (Canada) has released its Version 7.80 GrafNav/GrafNetTM, GrafNav/GrafNet Static, GrafNav Lite and GrafMov post-processing software. This latest software release includes significant advancements such as Precise Point Positioning (PPP), enhanced GLONASS processing and other features. The new embedded PPP processor offers many advantages to users. It permits dual frequency carrier phase processing without a base station. Users can expect 10-40cm kinematic accuracies and 2-10cm static accuracies, although accuracies can vary depending on age of the data, time length of collection, satellite geometry, frequency of cycle slips, receiver type, measurement quality and other factors. Enhanced Glonass processing is another key... (read more)

Software for Processing Massive Terrain Datasets

Software based on the Scalable Algorithm (SCALGO) technology can handle larger terrain datasets on a normal desktop than most current software, thus eliminating the need for accuracy-decreasing data thinning. The use of these mathematical and algorithmic techniques also means that the software works demonstrably efficiently on all input datasets, delivering a completely specified output without the use of cumbersome work-flows such as those introduced by data tiling.     The technology is based on more than two decades of basic and applied research on I/O-efficient and geometric algorithms at Center for Massive Data Algorithmics (MADALGO) at Aarhus University in Denmark... GNSS Post-Processing Programme Carlson Software

For surveyors and positioning professionals looking to achieve centimetre accuracy when working on the edge of their RTK infrastructure, perform sub-centimetre positioning, and/or provide quality assurance to their customers, Carlson Software (USA) has developed the Carlson SurveyGNSS post-processing programme and presented this during Intergeo 2013. This data post-processing solution is tightly integrated into the Carlson field and office workflow. SurveyGNSS is designed to accept GNSS data from any receiver in RINEX format. It will also accept proprietary GNSS data in an increasing number of manufacturer formats including NovAtel, Hemisphere GNSS, Altus/Septentrio, and Javad. Additional manufacturer formats will be added in... (read more)

Leica XPro 4.3 HiRes Ortho Processing

Leica XPro has been updated with several new features. Leica XPro 4.3 includes fast high-resolution orthophoto processing of RGB imagery by combining the HiRes data acquisition mode implemented in the Leica ADS product line with post-processing algorithms. With the new Leica HiRes capability orthophotos and orthomaps can be produced from imagery captured at up to two times higher flying altitude, thereby reducing flight lines and data acquisition costs. Another new feature has been added to the Leica XPro Image Viewer. The new drawing tool allows the operator during the quality control process to highlight particular image areas that require a... Automated Image Processing System for COTESA

PCI Geomatics has successfully delivered an operational automated system for the orthorectification, pansharpening and mosaicking of large volumes of satellite imagery to COTESA, a privately held GIS company based in Valladolid, Spain. The Spanish Government is working with COTESA to fulfill its requirements under the Multinational Geospatial Co-production Program (MGCP), undertaken by 28 NATO nations participating in the production of global high-resolution vector geospatial data. Employing PCI Geomatics’ advanced component architecture (GeomaticaX), the highly automated system is used to operationally process high resolution satellite imagery from QuickBird, IKONOS and SPOT-5. The volume of data to be processed with PCI Geomatics’... (read more)
